LIVE OAK, Fla., – Adam Ford, Clay Stratton and James Williams have graduated from the Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) Apprentice Lineworker Program.
The apprentice program ensures a long-term supply of highly trained, well-rounded journeyman lineworkers who can safely provide excellent electric service to the cooperative’s consumer-members. To graduate from the program and become journeymen, the trio successfully completed the Northwest Lineman College (NLC) Electrical Lineworker Program which includes a minimum of 576 hours of lecture, lab and field instruction. The graduates also completed over 8,000 hours of on-the-job training at SVEC.
“Our apprentice program requires a lot of study and hard work,” says SVEC CEO Mike McWaters. “We are very proud of these young men for being dedicated to their profession and earning promotion to journeyman.”
Fifteen individuals have graduated from SVEC’s apprentice program since it began in 2014.
SVEC is currently seeking candidates for two full scholarships to NLC’s 15-week Electrical Lineworker Program, which begins in January 2023. Upon successful completion of the NLC program, SVEC will offer the scholarship recipients a full-time apprentice lineworker position.
