By Tami Stevenson
Gainesville, Fla., – Monday, Governor DeSantis signed more than 40 bills into law. One of those bills was HB 751, for the City of Gainesville, which allows a new food truck park, where the food trucks are stationary, located within Gainesville’s Innovation District, to sell alcoholic beverages.
The alcohol must be consumed inside the fenced-in park. The language in the bill calls the park Innovation Square. Midpoint Park & Eatery is the name most visitors call it. The park has four stationary food trucks and enough seating for up to 80 customers. Each food truck vendor must acquire a liquor license just as any other business.
The park is centrally located between the UF campus and downtown Gainesville at 931 SW 2nd Avenue in Gainesville. Touting the park as Gainesville’s latest outdoor venue and entertainment hub, equipped with a stage for live entertainment, shaded outdoor seating, including hammocks, Adirondack chairs and tables, on site restroom facilities and of course, unique local food from the stationary food trucks.
Innovation District describes itself as a walkable urban tech and business community located steps from vibrant downtown and the Nation’s 6th-Ranked Public University. Gainesville’s Innovation District offers premium office, restaurant, lab and retail space – ideal for 9-to-5 and everything in between.
