After eight years of dedicated service to Suwannee County, Dave Wells is hanging up his hat and heading into a well-deserved retirement, leaving behind fond memories and many friends who will miss his familiar smile.

Wells began his career with the county in the Parks and Recreation Department before moving to the Suwannee County Airport, as a grounds keeper, where he became a familiar and welcoming presence to pilots, visitors and those who worked there.

For the folks at Speer Aviation, Wells was much more than just a county employee. He was someone they could always count on, whether it was helping commercial operations, assisting airport travelers or simply lending a hand wherever one was needed.

Stephanie Speer said he genuinely cared about the airport and took pride in his work. No task was too big or too small, and he was always willing to help.

But it wasn’t just his work ethic that made him special. It was the little things that people will remember most.

Wells would arrive with a cheerful “good morning” and a smile, brightening the day for those around him. And whenever pilots headed out for a flight, there was Dave, waving as their aircraft taxied away.

Those simple gestures, along with his dependable nature and friendly personality, made him a valued part of the airport community.

While the airport may be a little quieter without his familiar greetings and friendly waves, the kindness he showed and the friendships he made will not soon be forgotten.

     Happy retirement, Dave!
