The University of Florida recently announced that for the first time in United States history, the experimental use of genetically modified mosquitoes is taking place in the Florida Keys. It began in the Spring of 2021, and will run through the Spring of 2022. The experiment is being led by a biotechnology company, Oxitec, from the United Kingdom.

Live Oak, Fla., – Duke Energy is donating $1 million worth of meals and materials to United Way of Southeast Louisiana to assist in Hurricane Ida relief. The company delivered several semi-truck loads of Meals Ready to Eat (MRE’s) and COVID personal safety items, which included thousands of masks, hand sanitizers and other personal protective equipment to community partners in Louisiana. The supplies will be provided at emergency supply distribution events and through Entergy utility volunteers at Customer Information Centers. The donations will help protect residents against COVID as they work to rebuild.

Governor’s Press Office - Tuesday, Governor Ron DeSantis announced a legislative proposal that will eliminate the common-core based, end-of-year, high-stakes Florida Statewide Assessment and create the new Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (F.A.S.T) plan, which will monitor student progress and foster individual growth. By creating the F.A.S.T. Plan, Florida will become the first state in the nation to fully implement progress monitoring instead of end-of-year standardized testing, and fully eliminate common core.

MADISON, FL - The North Florida College Foundation is pleased to announce a recent donation from the Madison County Republican Executive Committee to establish a scholarship at the NFC Foundation. The scholarship will assist students entering a service-oriented Career and Workforce program at NFC, such as a certificate or degree in Emergency Medical Services, NFC Public Safety Academy programs or Nursing and Allied Health programs.
