Governor Ron DeSantis visited Lake City last week, to personally deliver checks to North Florida rural counties for road repairs at the Florida Department of Transportation office on September 10.
He announced more than $122 million in awards to small county governments and rural municipalities across the state through the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Small County Outreach Program.
Columbia, Suwannee, Lafayette, Hamilton and Madison Counties were among those awarded in our area.
Columbia County was awarded $2.98 million. The funds will go to resurfacing SW Birley Road from CR 242 to CR 252.
Suwannee County was awarded $3.66 million. The funds will support the widening and resurfacing of CR 250 from 193rd Road to SR 51.
Madison County was awarded $1.45 million. The money will be used to reconstruct Old County Camp Road from Tompkins Avenue to Bird Avenue.
“Rural counties face unique infrastructure challenges, so we are ensuring they have the resources needed for long-term success,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “These investments will improve infrastructure and attract new businesses to Florida’s rural communities.”
“Everything the Florida Department of Transportation undertakes, we do with the local communities in mind,” said Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E. “FDOT is proud of the partnerships we’ve built with our rural county leaders and look forward to continuing to deliver for these communities for years to come.”
