Hamilton Class of 2020 announces graduation date

Staff Reports

According to a press release, with the Governor moving to Phase 2 of his state reopening plan on Friday, Superintendent Rex Mitchell announced the dates for the Class of 2020 Graduation ceremony and the reopening of district and school offices to the public.

Graduation exercises will be held on Friday, June 26th, at 8:00 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Stadium on the high school campus. If rain forces cancelation of the ceremony on Friday night, it will be rescheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, June 27th in the football stadium. Only as a last resort in the event of inclement weather on Saturday morning will the graduation ceremony be moved to the gymnasium at HCHS with students having limited tickets for family members and guests.

“Every effort will be made to have the ceremony on the football field to allow for as many guests as possible to attend. If a slight delay is needed to allow for a rain shower to move past or if umbrellas are needed, we will observe these possibilities,” stated Superintendent Mitchell. The Superintendent goes on to say “A few precautions and adjustments will be made to ensure the safety and welfare of all in attendance. Social distancing will be observed by students on the field and our guests in the stands. We are asking family groups to maintain a 6-foot social distance between family groups. Masks will be optional and available for those requesting one upon entry to the stadium. Also, at the conclusion of the graduation ceremony, guests will not be allowed on the field but will meet their graduates in the parking lot as they leave the field.”

Senior Honors Night will be held on Monday, June 22nd, at 6:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of HCHS. Seniors being recognized at Honors Night will receive an invitation. Baccalaureate service will be held on Thursday, June 25th, at 7:00 p.m. in the HCHS gymnasium.

Superintendent Mitchell stated, “This service is being moved to the gymnasium to allow for more space to ensure social distancing by attendees.”

Superintendent Mitchell also announced that district and school offices will reopen to the public on Monday, June 29th. Summer hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Thursday will be observed through late July. All school and district office phones are being monitored Monday – Thursday and staff are available to assist as needed. In-person school board meetings will resume on Tuesday, July 14th, at 6:00 in the school board meeting room.
