UPDATE –Alachua County lifts mask requirement, then votes to make mandatory again – all on same day

Staff Reports

After the county had law suits filed against them for requiring its citizens to wear face masks, lawmakers decided to lift the requirement.

At an Alachua County Commission meeting earlier this week, commissioners voted to remove the requirement for residents to wear masks, in a 3-to-2 vote. Although they strongly encourage it.

**UPDATE**

Hours after the Alachua County Commission made the decision to lift the facial mask requirement, according to an article from the Gainesville Sun, they received negative comments from the Gainesville City Commission.

They then voted that very evening to make it mandatory again. So masks requirements are still in effect.

According to the article, they are now allowing bowling alleys and pool halls to open, keeping with the 50 percent capacity order.
