USSSA Super NIT Returns to Columbia County

Submitted by Alden Rosner

Nearly 1,000 youth baseball players will converge upon Columbia County over the weekend to compete in the USSSA North Florida Super NIT youth baseball tournament. The two-day event will draw more than 100 teams, consisting of players from 9 to 13 years of age, from as far away as Atlanta and West Palm Beach.

Teams will compete at the Southside Sports Complex in Lake City and the South Columbia Sports Complex in Fort White over the course of the weekend.

“This event is a great opportunity to show off the fantastic athletic facilities the County has, and will also generate a substantial economic impact on the county as well,” said Alden Rosner, Sports Marketing Director for Columbia County.

The Super NIT is one of the many premier youth baseball events USSSA hosts, according to tournament director Scott Rutherford. Teams that win their age division in the Super NIT are awarded a berth in the USSSA Elite World Series, held annually in July at the USSSA headquarters in Viera, FL, to compete against teams from across the United States.

This is the second year in a row the event has been held in Columbia County, with last year’s tournament bringing over 90 teams to Lake City. “This is a signature event for us, and we are looking forward to a great weekend of tournament play,” said Rosner.

Baseball action begins Saturday at 8am. Daily admission is $10 per adult, children 12 and under free.

The Southside Sports Complex is located at 1963 SW Bascom Norris Drive in Lake City.

The South Columbia Sports Complex is located at 17579 SW SR 47 in Fort White.
