Submitted by FDOT

LIVE OAK, FL. – The Hal Adams Bridge over the Suwannee River (State Road 51) is expected to be closed for two nights next week as part of bridge testing by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.

The bridge will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, September 23, and Tuesday, September 24. FDOT crews will be surveying the cables on the bridge as part of routine bridge maintenance. During this inspection, there can be no movement on the bridge, and no vehicles will be allowed on the bridge during this time.

Detours will be in place both nights. Traffic from Live Oak will be detoured to U.S. 129 South to U.S. 27 North. Traffic from Mayo will be detoured to U.S. 27 South to U.S. 129 North.

Opened in 1947 as the first suspension bridge built in Florida, the bridge was named for Hal W. Adams of Mayo, a former county judge in Lafayette County and circuit judge for both Lafayette and Suwannee counties.
