More than 100 youth baseball and softball teams will be taking the field at the Southside Sports Complex this week as the facility plays host to two Babe Ruth League tournaments.

At the Girls Softball complex, the Florida Babe Ruth Softball State Championships will feature 93 teams from across the state competing over five days for the chance to advance to the Babe Ruth Softball World Series, held during July in Jensen Beach.

Over 1,000 girls ages six to 16 years of age will be participating in this event, making it the largest girls tournament the complex hosts each year. “The Babe Ruth Softball State Championships are the Southside Sports Complex’s biggest event of the summer.

This tournament is a fantastic event for the girls, their families, and the community” said Alden Rosner, Sports Marketing Director for the Columbia County Sports Commission. “The size of this tournament demonstrates the quality and the success of the Babe Ruth program across the state, and it is such a privilege to have the opportunity to host this event in Lake City.”

Games begin Thursday, June 20 at 9am. Daily tournament admission is $10 and children 12 and under are admitted free.

Also this weekend, the Florida Babe Ruth District 6 tournament will be held at the Southside Sports Complex Yellow Fields. 19 teams in three age divisions will be competing for the chance to qualify for their respective state tournaments. The District Tournament consists of teams from Columbia, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Madison, Suwannee, Union, and Wakulla counties. Games begin Thursday, June 20 at 9am, and admission to District Baseball games is free.

The Southside Sports Complex is located at 1963 SW Bascom Norris Drive in Lake City.
