Auctions are gaining popularity as a great method of marketing for real estate and personal property. Some say the experience is similar to the energy and enthusiasm found on the floor of the commodities exchange as the bidding gains momentum when more than one bidder is interested in the same item. That was certainly true last Saturday during a White Springs living estate auction by GE Johnson Auctioneers of McAlpin. The total estate was estimated to bring around a half million dollars. It took three auctioneers to get through all of the tools, guns, household and outbuilding items. Then the house and property itself, which included a pond on 45 +/- acres and outbuildings. Hundreds attended. Many came early to go over the merchandise before the bidding began.

Julia Johnson, of GE Johnson Auctioneers, said it was a family affair. The three auctioneers were comprised of her husband, George Johnson, their son, Ed Johnson and their son-in-law, Mark Fitzpatrick.

The seemingly endless supply of tools, guns and household items made for a long day for auctioneers and bidders alike, but that is what the excitement is all about. Large Live Oak’s on the estate provided shade from the hot sun and everyone enjoyed the experience.
