Live Oak:     The City of Live Oak will celebrate Veterans Day with its annual community parade and commemoration on Nov. 12.

Beginning at 9 a.m., the parade will commence at Suwannee Elementary School, and proceed north on Ohio Avenue, until it reaches Howard Street. At that time, it will be routed east, toward Houston Avenue. Everyone is invited to attend this annual event, which has grown over the past four years.

Bands, floats and special guests, along with many local veterans and military vehicles, will participate in the parade.  Everyone is encouraged to come out and support our local veterans’ community and our neighbors as we celebrate this important holiday. Anyone who would like to participate should pick up an application from the Live Oak Public Library. Completed forms may be returned to the library or turned in to Harry C. Gray II Memorial American Legion Post 107, which is located at 10726 142nd St., McAlpin, FL  32062.

The commemorative ceremony, which will be held at Live Oak Cemetery at the intersection of Ohio Avenue and Winderweedle Street, will begin at 11 a.m. The ceremony is a joint effort of American Legion Post 107 and DAV Chapter 126.  The community is urged to attend, share friendship and great music and help respect those who have served and gone before.  Everyone is welcome.

Immediately following the ceremony, a free chicken dinner will be provided by Live Oak Elks Lodge, which is located on East Howard Street, across from Live Oak City Hall. The American Legion and DAV do recommend donations, as you can afford, to help continue this great tradition.
