Last week students in the Melting Pot Summer Camp received a surprise visit from White Springs Mayor Spencer Lofton while weeding at Ahmogalee Park. The summer camp is put on by It’s About My Efforts, Inc. at its performing arts gallery. In addition to academic enrichment and performing arts instructions the students participate in community in-service projects including the adoption of Ahmogalee Park in White Springs and providing customize greeting cards to homebound veterans in Lake City.

Beyond the excitement for the ice cold water he brought, the Mayor’s visit included an opportunity for the youth to discuss ways to make the city parks a better place for kids to spend time learning. The kids enjoyed weeding the grounds with Mayor Lofton and his wife Lisa and told him they thought it was the perfect place to do homework.
