Two Officers killed by gunman in Gilchrist County

Line Of Duty Death Funeral Arrangements and procession route information for Noel and Taylor:


The Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Bobby Schultz can confirm funeral arrangements for the line of duty deaths of Sergeant Noel Ramirez and Deputy Sheriff Taylor Lindsey, shot to death on Thursday, April 19, 2018.


A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 10:00am, followed immediately by a non-denominational service at 11:00am at Bell Middle/High School, 930 South Main Street, Bell, Florida 32693. Seating inside is limited and overflow listening and viewing options have been arranged on the football field located immediately behind the gymnasium. Community parking will be directed and at the Bell Elementary School located on NE 10th Street east of the Middle/High School. Basic comfort items and some mobility impaired services will be available.


Graveside honors will be at the Bronson Cemetery located at the intersection of State Road 24 and Marshburn Drive in Bronson, Florida 32621. This portion of the ceremony will start no earlier than 2:30 pm.


The Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office Family as a whole is continually humbled and honored as you, the community we have sworn to serve, rallied during our time of grief and have showered your deputies with every kind word and act imaginable. The official funeral escort route has been mapped and planned and will:


• Depart from the Bell Middle/High School at 12:45 pm
• Proceed South on CR 129 through Trenton, Florida
• Turn South on CR 339 to the intersection of US Alternate Highway 27
• Turn South on US Alternate Highway 27 to the intersection of SR 24
• Turn East on SR 24 to the Bronson Cemetery for internment

The funeral procession honoring Noel and Taylor will unfortunately be one of the largest Florida has ever seen. Traffic flow between the hours of 11:45am until 2:30 pm along the route will be interrupted and diverted. For our friends and family that may be unable to attend the formal services, you may line the streets of Trenton to honor the fallen. Please be mindful that parking will be limited.

The Pine Grove Baptist Church located at 16655 CR 339 Trenton, Florida 32693 has opened their grounds as another safe parking location for you to show your support and during the procession. Basic comfort items and restroom facilities will be on location. Please utilize this location in lieu of parking along the side of the road along CR 339.

Parking at the graveside ceremony will also be limited. Law Enforcement Officers assisting the Gilchrist County Family honoring Noel and Taylor will be stationed and directing attendees to parking locations north of the cemetery on Marshburn Drive.

4-20-18 UPDATE:

It has just been learned through officers at the scene that the assailant did not shoot the officers through the restaurant window, they were actually shot from inside the restaurant.


Shooter Identified

According to the GCSO, the shooter, found deceased from a gunshot wound by responders outside the business nearby, has been identified as John Hubert Highnote, 59, of Bell. No further information is available regarding the assailant, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting the active, ongoing criminal investigation.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office and the families of the two officers shot and killed earlier today in Gilchrist County by a gunman that reportedly shot 30-year-old Sgt. Noel Ramirez, a seven-year veteran, and 25-year-old Deputy Taylor Lindsay, a three-year veteran, through the window while they were eating at the Ace China Restaurant in Trenton, Florida. The suspect was reportedly found dead. According to reports the shooting took place around 3 p.m. today. This senseless tragedy is an active investigation in conjunction with FDLE.
