Delaney Cote, age three, of Fort White received a special surprise last week when she met a new Junior Ranger of the four-footed persuasion while visiting O’Leno State Park with her family last week.

Junior Ranger, Scout, from Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses is a new honorary Junior Ranger at O’Leno State Park in High Springs. Scout meets children in the Nature Center and takes them for walks on the trails. He encourages others to become Junior Rangers just like he is.

The Florida State Parks Junior Ranger Program provides the opportunity for young people to learn, serve and share Florida’s natural and cultural resources.

Ranger Scout attends park events like the Springs Celebration and O’Leno Ole Chili Cook-off and O’Leno’s Literacy Days. In his free time Scout jogs with his trainer on the park trails (even across the high bridge). Junior Ranger Scout works with Ranger Jim South who organizes events in the park.
