January 3, 2018, 4:00 p.m. EST

Submitted by Paula Vann, Public Information Officer

(Columbia County, FL) The worst of Winter Storm Grayson has moved past Columbia County. However, the Wind Chill Advisory and Hard Freeze Warning are in effect until Friday, January 5.  Expect temperature highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 20s through Saturday, January 6. No rain is forecasted for Columbia County until Monday, January 8.

Please use caution when traveling as water has the potential to freeze easily with overnight lows in the 20s. If you must travel on the roads, use caution and be aware of conditions around you.

During these winter conditions, remember the four “P’s” (Pets, Plants, Pipes, and People), and ensure you have made appropriate preparations.

Government offices will be OPEN on Thursday, January 4.

Power crews are working diligently to restore power.  Report any power outages to your power company.

Parkview Baptist Church, 268 NW Lake Jeffrey Road, Lake City, is available as a cold night shelter.  The church opens the shelter when temperatures reach 35 degrees or below. The shelter will remain open through the night; showers are available, and breakfast is served at 6:30 a.m. Typically, shelter hours are 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. the following morning.

Columbia County Emergency Management will continue to monitor the conditions and will release any updated information as we receive it.
