Columbia County: Afternoon Update

(Columbia County, FL.) Shelter populations are decreasing as people return to their homes. The special needs shelter at Fort White Community Center has now closed.

Two hurricane shelters are still active.
Active shelter locations:

OPEN  (General Population) Ft. Community Center, 17579 SW State Road 47, Fort White, FL 32038

OPEN (General Population) Winfield Community Center, 1324 NW Winfield St, Lake City, FL 32055

The following bridges remain closed:

CLOSED U.S. Highway 27 Bridge

CLOSED U.S. Highway 41 Bridge

CLOSED C.R. 18 Bridge (at Union County line)

Important County specific updates and reminders listed below.

Residents Near Rivers: Residents that live along rivers, specifically, the Santa Fe and Suwannee rivers, please monitor water levels closely, and make a plan (i.e. how will you leave, where you will go, and what is your route, etc.) as these rivers are expected to rise due to the large amount rain from the past two days. If you feel that your safety is in jeopardy, please leave your home.  There is NOT a mandatory evacuation order.
Rivers’ anticipated crests below:

Santa Fe River: 57.1 ft. at O’Leno Thursday (9.14.17)

Santa Fe at Three Rivers: 25.2 ft. Friday mid-day (9.15.17)

Suwannee River: 76.49 ft. Yesterday mid-day (9.13.17)

Citizen Information Center: The Citizen Information Center will be shutting down its operations at 6pm today.

Schools:  Columbia County Schools will be closed Thursday, September 14 and Friday, September 15. The teachers’ workday planned for Monday, September 18, will now be regular school day.
