Shands Live Oak Opens New Primary Care Facility

By Jeffry Boatright

Shands Live Oak Medical Group welcomed members from the community for an open house event after hours on Thursday, April 20. The interactive gathering showcased the medical group’s newest primary care facility and provided an opportunity for residents and members from the business community to become acquainted with the staff and healthcare professionals who will serve area residents. The new primary care facility is conveniently located at 1426 Canyon Ave., in Live Oak.

The warm, family-friendly atmosphere was reflective of the medical group’s fundamental goal of providing care for families and individuals of all ages. Throughout the event, representatives from Shands Live Oak Medical Group emphasized the organization’s desire to offer convenient care for the whole family.

While an abundance of hors d’oeuvres and delightful treats were on hand for all to enjoy, the greatest delight was the undeniable enthusiasm of the facility’s staff and administrators, as well as that of those from the community.

Market Chief Executive Officer Rhonda Sherrod stressed the value of partnership in the medical field. She discussed the effectiveness of that partnership between Shands Live Oak Medical Group and the community it serves, along with healthcare providers and other medical facilities. Sherrod took exceptional delight in introducing Adetokunbo Awojulu, M.D. and Amber Ingram, ARNP. Both Awojulu and Ingram savor the opportunity to serve patients at the new facility.

According to Trace Griffin, director of physician practices, the facility is open to patients of all ages. Although walk-ins are welcome, Griffin stated that same-day appointments may also be scheduled at the Canyon Ave. facility.

Linda Silecchia, director of marketing and communications for Shands Live Oak Medical Group, underscored the value of accessibility for members of the community in need of primary medical care. With that, Silecchia stated that opening the new facility provides an additional opportunity for medical care to be more accessible to the community. Silecchia added that schedules are often difficult for working families, but Shands Live Oak Medical Group is striving to accommodate such difficult and unique schedules.

While medical professionals stand ready to accommodate the needs of the community and offer treatment to restore health, staff at the new facility will also connect patients with specialists who can hone in on specific needs. Those specialists include, but are certainly not limited to urologists and cardiologists. Orthopedic specialists are also available through the Live Oak group, according to Griffin.

Although the open house event highlighted the services and accessibility of the new Canyon Ave. location, services remain available at the primary care location at 1116 SW 11th Street, in Live Oak, which is on the main campus of Shands Live Oak Regional Medical Center. According to their website, the medical center in Live Oak focuses on providing superior emergency care, cardiology services and general medicine, in addition to a wide range of diagnostic services for the community. Affiliated with the University of Florida Health Science Center, the Live Oak Regional Medical Center partners with one of the Southeast’s premier health systems.

In addition to the primary care facilities at the 11th Street and Canyon Ave. locations, Shands Live Oak Medical Group offers primary care at the Hamilton Primary Care location, which now offers extended hours. Hamilton Primary Care is located at 1150 US Hwy 41 NW in Jasper. Residents in the Wellborn community can easily access the Shands Live Oak Wellborn Primary Care facility, which is located at 4345 East Hwy 90, in Wellborn.

According to Griffin, the hours of operation for the new Canyon Ave. facility are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday thru Friday. To schedule an appointment with the facility’s dedicated staff, residents should call (386) 208-0537. Canyon Avenue is located just off of U.S. 129 N., along the corridor to Interstate 10.
