Join us for a free cookout dinner with a bounce house, candy, games, and fellowship on Wednesday, October 26th, beginning at 5:45 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church in Live Oak. Community Presbyterian Church is located across from the Music Center and near Winn Dixie, at 830 Pinewood Drive. What’s the occasion? Reformation Day!
What’s Reformation Day, you ask? Reformation Day marks the October 31st anniversary of the day in the year 1517 A.D. that the German monk Martin Luther announced to the church and the world his protests about the errors he observed in then-current church practice. Martin Luther read the Bible and concluded that it says that salvation is by faith alone, through the grace of God. Other people agreed with Martin Luther’s protests and came to be known as ‘Protestants.’
Martin Luther and other Reformers translated the Bible into the local languages so people could read it themselves. The printing press was invented at about that time, so more Bibles could be made. We all owe a debt of thanks to the Reformers for helping make it possible for us all to read the Bible in our own languages and to own a Bible at home.
